The large 30 m² room in this flat has always served as a kitchen, living room, dining room and study. This all-in-one layout is essential when you have a home of average size that needs to be optimised, especially as a curved wall doesn’t make the layout any easier. When we met the clients in the small village of Peppange near Esch-sur-Alzette, the couple – parents to a young daughter – quickly asked us about the possibilities for optimising this living space.
Current situation
In this tidy flat, a couple live with their little girl and a lovely dog. The main room is a proper living space, as the kitchen opens onto the living room, where a desk has also been set up. The television is positioned along the wall on a low, shared unit of the sort often seen in homes. A desk extends from it into the corner. Except that this ‘corner’ is rounded! This results in a loss of space, and when space is at a premium, that’s a real shame. The couple had hoped to gain an extra room, but putting up a partition wall would have resulted in a loss of light. The idea of making the most of this rounded corner when designing bespoke furniture seemed obvious to us.
“Our living room had potential, but we didn’t know how to make it more pleasant and practical. BeHome Interiors suggested we highlight the curve of the main wall and designed a desk unit with integrated storage. They’ve created a real gem for us, and thanks to the colour scheme, our room has really become a much more pleasant place to be.”

A curved wall is, after all, quite rare in a contemporary home, whether in Peppange or elsewhere. Admittedly, creating a bespoke desk to fit this architectural constraint is no easy task, but when it comes to bespoke work, it’s a perfect opportunity to showcase one’s expertise to clients looking for original ideas. The combination of the curved desk, extended by the low unit designed to house the TV, along with the green paint chosen by the client, the wooden slats and a few shelves, creates a very elegant result and adds a strong sense of character to the room.
Wood to emphasise the curve
The desk top in Lancashire Oak melamine adds a warm, horizontal touch to the room. The wall panelling, featuring vertical wooden strips set against an olive-green background, lends a further natural patina for those who love plants.
Making the most of every nook and cranny
A small, previously unused and almost invisible alcove suddenly becomes very useful and takes centre stage, providing space for the end of the desk and a few shelves. A lick of paint brings it to life and showcases the books and small plants.
A beautiful low TV unit
As one might expect, the desk is extended with the same worktop, resting on a timeless matt white low unit. The wall is painted white again so as not to overwhelm the room’s natural light.
Drawer, oh lovely drawer…
The doors and drawers of the base unit have no handles; a simple push is all it takes to open them. Documents and miscellaneous items can be stored away in these generously sized cupboards.
