Dividing a room into two or more distinct spaces gives you the opportunity to maximise the number of areas in your home. This type of bespoke interior design might be used, for example, in a very large living room, an unused hallway or a flat where the layout results in a significant loss of floor space. Dividing rooms using a trellis, a solid or glazed partition, or even a bespoke piece of furniture (bookcase, walk-in wardrobe, cupboard, etc.) does not necessarily mean ‘walling off’ the areas, but rather defining them to make them more functional. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.

Define boundaries without obstructing

Unlike a solid partition, a trellis is an openwork screen that allows you to define or separate an open-plan room (such as a kitchen or living room) without blocking out too much light. And it does so in an extremely elegant way. A bespoke trellis can be designed in a simple, classic style with parallel slats, but can also be created in a more original way, featuring geometric patterns or even irregular designs.

Bringing your home to life

If you’re looking to create a clear division between rooms or a private space (such as a home office), a bespoke partition is the answer. The wide range of colours and materials – from classic to unusual – will inspire you to turn them into real decorative features. They can be either fixed or removable. Be warned: you might quickly become hooked, as there’s such a vast choice.

Practicality and design

The interior design of a room can also be enhanced by a bespoke room divider, which will then serve a dual purpose. It could be a cupboard or a wardrobe, but also a bookcase with shelves, open or closed compartments – perhaps even illuminated ones – which will provide storage whilst leaving space for decorative items. The resulting privacy will be ideal for creating a very useful little office.

Bespoke transparency

If you want to maximise natural light and aren’t necessarily looking for privacy between rooms but rather a sense of openness, you’ll be won over by the elegant and irresistible design of a bespoke glass partition. A chic, bespoke room divider that takes the form of a giant bay window or a studio-style glass partition, available in coloured glass or completely transparent. You’ll find some real gems amongst our creations – original and light-filled bespoke interior design solutions.

Divide and thrive

Why divide a room? Whether you live in a small studio flat, a large flat or even a house, room dividers offer the chance to reorganise your interior without losing any space. A sliding room divider (transparent or opaque) can, for example, replace a traditional door. You might opt for a custom-made trellis-style partition or glass partition to preserve the room’s overall look and sense of space, thereby creating alcoves or structures that make it easier to position a desk or a sofa, whilst looking stunning. For true privacy, a bespoke designer piece of furniture, such as a bookcase, can serve as a room divider whilst providing additional storage space.
