A proper, bespoke home office – it’s something many of us dream of, whether we’re self-employed, business owners or simply passionate about our work. But not everyone has a ‘spare room’ in which to create a dedicated workspace. In this flat in Geneva, a lovely, spacious and underused entrance hall had everything it needed to be transformed into a lovely (remote) working space…
The current situation in Geneva
The flat is stylish, with white walls and ceiling, and laminate flooring covering most of the rooms. Lovely touches of red and orange are already evident in the existing furnishings (sofa, storage units, kitchen, etc.) and lend the interior a very warm feel. The spacious area in the hall has obvious potential to be redesigned as a bespoke home office…
“At first, we were thinking of creating a small office area with storage in a corner of the living room, but the team at BeHome Interiors Geneva, during their first visit, immediately suggested we convert our entrance hall. We loved the idea, and the 3D plans convinced us completely!”

Quotes, initial 3D plans, construction site…: a multi-stage office project
The area in question opens out into the hallway and leads to several rooms in the flat. A space of this size could have accommodated a comfortable hall unit, or a large cupboard to maximise storage space, or even both. Bespoke design allows for every wish, even the wildest ones. Placing a desk in such a high-traffic area may seem unusual, but by making it a central feature, it ensures it is accessible to the whole Geneva-based family: for work, leisure, administrative tasks…
A desk for work and leisure
Fitted with two comfortable Vitra armchairs in vibrant colours, this bespoke white desk allows both parents to work side by side or keep an eye on a child’s screen time. The ‘marble-effect’ stone-pattern laminate splashback breaks up the monotony of the white scheme whilst adding an original texture to this work area.
Overhanging bookcase
For these art and architecture enthusiasts, there are plenty of beautiful books, which take pride of place on a bookcase – also made to measure – positioned above the desk. Numerous comic books are displayed spine-first, arranged in collections. Enclosed alcoves provide space for storing archives that are less visually appealing to display.
Discreet and effective lighting
When there isn’t enough light, this LED lighting provides soft, direct illumination thanks to discreet light strips fitted beneath the shelf. When switched off, you wouldn’t even know they’re there.
Bespoke storage solutions…
The desk is situated between two cupboards, providing a very useful space for storing clothes or documents of all kinds. A storage chest/bench creates a break in the floor level and allows for a gradual transition into the adjoining living room.
A wall-mounted, illuminated unit…
The lacquered white fronts, combined with the lacquer-effect melamine of the body, blend harmoniously with the flat and, at the same time, are very unobtrusive. The structure of the entire unit fits seamlessly into this passageway and creates an interesting sense of space that wasn’t there before.
