This bespoke corner bookcase, created by our BeHome Interiors team and fitted into a beautiful period flat in Lausanne, is a design that had to take several factors into account. The presence of radiators on the walls and an upright piano influenced the structure of the unit so that it would follow the contours of the room. A library born of a passion
This bespoke bookcase was designed to reflect the cultural richness of this room. A love of literature and music brought together in a dedicated living room. Faced with the constraint of the radiator and the desire to incorporate the piano, our interior designers in Lausanne devised a wall-mounted feature that plays with horizontal levels to create a stunning symphony of furniture.

An upright piano in its cabinet in Lausanne
This room has a suspended ceiling: the effective height is 2.60 metres rather than the actual 3.50 metres. This was a wise decision made by the client at an early stage, ensuring that the room does not ‘overwhelm’ the beautiful piano with its towering dimensions. The bespoke bookcase takes up the upper half of the wall. Discreet storage units surround the piano and the radiator in the lower half.
Open and closed storage
The bookcase is a bespoke storage unit, ideal for anyone with a large collection of books of all sizes. Combining it with closed cupboards at the bottom is a good way to store archives and items not used on a daily basis. The matt white fronts ensure a discreet look whilst highlighting what needs to be shown off: the piano, the books, the décor.
The bookcase ladder: a gateway to culture
A large bookcase with a ladder is the epitome of style. A handrail in natural-stained solid oak creates a colourful dividing line that adds a subtle texture and provides a practical visual guide for organising the collection. The grey finish chosen for the ladder gives it a real presence and blends in with the overall décor.
