This project to redesign the living room on the first floor of this house in Saint-Prex, near Lausanne, arose from our client’s desire to reclaim this large open-plan room opening onto a magnificent conservatory. Over the years, this living space had become cluttered, and the couple, who have a child, wanted to recapture the sense of warmth and togetherness they had lost. They chose BeHome Interiors Lausanne after discovering our projects on our website.

Current situation
During the first visit to this house in Saint-Prex, the atmosphere was immediately pleasant. This young couple are aware of how difficult it is to rethink a living space after so many years of living there, and need a professional’s perspective to reorganise this large room. The room comprises an entrance hall, a kitchen, a living room and a dining room, and opens out onto a magnificent conservatory, but it sorely lacks clear boundaries to define the different living areas, as can be seen in the photos below.
“We discovered BeHome Interiors Lausanne online whilst browsing various interior designers’ websites. We chose them because of the modern style evident in their designs and because they manage the entire project, from the creation of the interior design right through to the manufacture and installation of the furniture. Thank you for listening to our needs and for your professionalism.”
A few ideas for redecorating the living room in Saint-Prex
A range of proposals and options allow the client to envisage the many possibilities for their future living room redesign. Previously, all the existing furniture – most of which was quite low – was placed against the walls. We opted for a design approach that makes the most of vertical space, incorporating visual features on the walls such as alcoves, hanging decorations and light fittings.
Defining spaces without partitioning them off
With the superb natural light provided by the conservatory, installing light-blocking partitions was out of the question. However, well-arranged furniture allows us to define areas on the floor and organise natural flow of movement. The full-height screen unit was a very convincing solution that met the urgent need for storage (for Playmobil sets, amongst other things ;-)).
Preserving this stunning view
These large bay windows in the conservatory provide a panoramic view and flood the room with light – it would be a shame to block them off. Access to the windows must be maintained, which is why a long, low unit with plenty of storage space has been fitted along an entire wall. The TV has found its place. The unit has become a spot to relax, and a great play area for playing with Playmobil.
A proper living room
Now that the different areas are more clearly defined, a proper sitting area with a sofa and armchairs has become the perfect place to get together with family or friends. The TV is there for evenings spent watching series, whilst the small coffee tables are ideal for a quick drink. The rug adds that welcome touch of warmth.
Existing furniture and bespoke furniture
Some pieces of furniture that had been there for a long time were moved to help reorganise the space. However, the bulk of the work involved in redesigning the large living area was carried out using a range of bespoke furniture designed by our interior designers. Crafted by our partner joinery firm, whose finishes are impeccable, these pieces were carefully installed by our craftsmen.
Attention to detail, right down to the handles
These bespoke low units meet storage needs whilst remaining discreet, thanks to the absence of handles on the hinged doors and drawers. A push-to-open mechanism allows for easy opening and closing. For taller units, elegant gold-coloured handles add a touch of chic without being ostentatious.
