In Tannay, between Lausanne and Geneva, on the second floor of a block of flats, this modern flat is situated in the loft. A large open-plan room, opening onto the staircase, the kitchen and the living room, lacked clear boundaries and privacy. Renovated 5–6 years ago, the flat has been given a new lease of life thanks to a partition unit fitted by BeHome Interiors in Crissier, which offers a number of advantages.
Current situation
The entrance is on the first floor, and the flat we’re viewing awaits us at the top of the stairs. It is therefore on the second floor that we discover this lovely loft space. Apart from the bedrooms and the bathroom, all the living areas are concentrated here. A long, low unit serves as a room divider but is far from making the most of the floor space or storage. Ideas quickly spring to mind as we envisage the future redesign of this space.

The benefits of room divider furniture in Tannay
Having lived in their home for several years, our clients could not see how to improve it. Conceived, modelled in 3D and then made to measure, the room divider in this loft flat in Tannay is appealing in more ways than one.
A multi-purpose piece of furniture
The bespoke unit begins on the left with a closed cupboard offering plenty of storage space. It continues at a right angle with the distinctive partition, comprising a mix of open and closed compartments, followed by a beautifully designed screen. At the bottom, additional storage space meets the family’s needs.
An invisible office
In the corner, two handle-less hinged doors reveal a study area. A deep recess from which a workspace emerges. Ideal for working from home when necessary, it becomes invisible when no longer needed.
Elegant from every angle
Fitting seamlessly into the ceiling height, this bespoke room divider blends perfectly into the room thanks to its colours, which complement the room’s style. This ‘open wall’ creates a sense of privacy without isolating you from others. The wood-effect finish of the screen and the horizontal panel is wonderfully warm.
Separating without partitioning
The TV lounge area is now separated from the staircase without blocking the view. As you climb the final few steps, you can see through the open alcoves and the trellis into the cosy room, where it’s lovely to spend time together. The white and wood of the furniture blend harmoniously with the wooden floor, the walls and the beam.
A unit with plenty of storage space
The upper section of the unit, finished in smooth ‘Super White’ melamine, features numerous, irregularly shaped compartments to break up the monotony. Decorative items, books and trinkets are showcased and brighten up the whole piece with their colours, shapes and originality.
Straight lines and curved detailing
To soften the transition into the living room, the dividing unit features a horizontal top in Lancelot oak-effect melamine that curves elegantly at the edge. The top, cantilevered on cross-braces, forms the base of this design and lends a unique style to this bespoke creation.
