This interior renovation project for a living room in a 1970s house in Beggen, Luxembourg, brought together several requests from our clients, a retired couple who are music lovers. Starting with the need to replace the radiators built into the walls beneath the windows and in the floor, they seized this opportunity to ask us to propose a modern vision for the room. They saw BeHome Interiors Luxembourg as the project coordinator capable not only of managing the logistics, but also of bringing an aesthetic, warm and functional vision to the space. Current situation
On our first visit to this house in Beggen, a residential neighbourhood near Luxembourg, we received a warm welcome, much like the interior, where wood features prominently. In the living area we’re looking at, a fireplace, several pieces of furniture, two sofas, dark wooden doors and plants give this L-shaped lounge a rather cluttered look. Both the walls and the floor are covered with lots of decorative items and furniture. It has a very 1980s–1990s feel.

The interior refurbishment of the Luxembourg showroom begins in 3D
Several proposals and options are always put forward to the client. The L-shaped layout allows for flexibility in the positioning of key living room pieces such as the table and the sofa. The question of whether or not to keep the existing furniture is always a valid one, and was, of course, raised. However, if one wishes to achieve a genuine aesthetic and functional renovation, one must be prepared to part with older pieces. A few beautiful pieces of furniture were therefore retained, whilst new ones were designed by the BeHome Interiors team – made to measure, of course. The high-definition renderings allow the client to visualise her future, renovated home.
Modernising a fireplace is possible
Several wooden features in the living room, prior to its renovation, made the room feel dark and dated, starting with the wooden floor, the doors and the ceiling battens… By opting for Dublin parquet flooring and bespoke furniture in a lighter oak-effect melamine and white, the room has become brighter and more modern.
The TV stays where it is in the living room
Some habits die hard, but they are sometimes justified by experience. Various interior design proposals suggested moving the TV to a different spot, but the layout of the room – and its proximity to the fireplace – made it clear that the screen should remain in its original position.
A warm, inviting atmosphere around the fireplace
By placing lighting at the top of the two pieces of furniture that now flank the fireplace on either side, we create a very cosy, subdued atmosphere, showcasing both the furniture and the hearth. A decorative item or your vinyl collection will also be shown off to better effect.
Combining style and practicality
The centrepiece of this living room, the fireplace now features a section of the surrounding unit dedicated to storing the wood that will fuel it in winter. BeHome Interiors’ bespoke furniture design offers the opportunity to plan every niche and every shelf so that everything has its place in the most practical way possible.
Another piece of furniture in the corner
The living room has taken on a more minimalist look (fewer pieces of furniture, sofas and pictures on the walls…), and now gives a better impression of a large, beautiful and cohesive space – perfect for inviting musician friends round to play a few tunes together. An elegant, shallow, tall piece of furniture makes this corner feel cosier and showcases some beautiful glass pieces. New lighting has replaced the old, outdated ceiling lights.
A few extra touches
Whilst some existing items were retained (a sofa, rugs…), we persuaded the client to add a few decorative touches to give the room an even more contemporary feel. This includes a few pendant lights, two Bonaldo armchairs – whose wooden parts echo the speakers of the hi-fi system – and new curtains… all of which blend in beautifully with the overall wood and white colour scheme. The radiators have also been replaced with new ones, featuring a more contemporary design.
