An interior designer may oversee the building work, but this isn’t always the case: it depends on the contract you sign with them.
BeHome Interiors offers you end-to-end support, covering all types of building work if required (plastering, electrical work, painting, etc.), the design and/or purchase of furniture, right through to the interior decoration.
Examples of projects involving the management of interior fit-out works
What an interior designer typically manages:
Interior designers, depending on whether they work independently or as part of a team (including fit-out specialists, joiners, decorators, fitters, etc.), generally offer design services as their core offering.
- ✅ He designs the layout of spaces (plans, materials, colours, furniture, lighting).
- ✅ He produces technical and visual drawings in 2D and/or 3D.
- ✅ It offers an aesthetic and functional concept, based on expertise and training that is both practical and creative.
- ✅ He can recommend tradespeople or partner companies whom he knows well enough to advise you on, and offer you suggestions and advice.
- ❌ Without a specific contract, they will not oversee the work or liaise with tradespeople or fitters. You will need to coordinate the various trades yourself.
- ❌ He will not place orders for made-to-measure or catalogue furniture. You will be responsible for paying the costs up front and arranging for the parcels to be collected.
Some interior designers prioritise creativity and design and are not always able to take certain technical aspects into account.
Works management: optional
The interior designer can, if you ask, take on the role of project manager. This involves planning, managing the various trades and supervising the building works.
A project involving building work is often a source of stress for a client. This option can spare you any hassle, and you’ll have just one point of contact to oversee everything. It includes:
- ✅ planning the stages of the construction project.
- ✅ coordinating with tradespeople and trusted professionals with whom he is used to working.
- ✅ Monitoring progress and ensuring the quality of the work.
- ✅ the link between you and businesses.
- ✅ A preliminary assessment may be required before a quote can be drawn up, in the case of an ambitious project that involves a great deal of discussion (and work).
Of course, this is covered by a contract or a specific assignment, with additional fees. Always ask whether the assignment includes project management or not. This is essential to avoid any misunderstandings.
